As a dog lover and someone who has been through a whole host of products for my dog, both good and not so good, I can safely say, not all dog pet beds are created equal.
My beloved dog is actually very gentle with his dog bed and we haven’t had a problem with him chewing on his bed or even with him having an accident. We have a decent fake sheepskin bed and it’s washable so we really don’t worry too much about it getting messy or anything. But I do have friends who have larger dogs who not only chew their beds, but that completely destroy them.
What they really need is a durable, long-lasting dog bed that can withstand the punishment of a large and feisty dog. Fortunately today, there are tons of different dog beds available made from a variety of materials that withstand the onslaught of most canine companions.

Kuranda Dog Beds makes a good quality Poly Resin dog bed as well as an all-metal dog bed, which they claim is chew proof. I imagine it is but you may have to put it to the test. As a matter of fact they guarantee the structural integrity of the frames and fabrics of their dog beds for a period of one year from date of purchase. They will actually replace any of the frame or the fabric from the beds that are no longer usable at no extra charge.
Then there is Dr Foster Smith dog beds, which I hear are pretty darn tough and durable too. They can be pricey but I believe they hold up to the test with most dogs. It’s usually the larger breeds, like the labs, huskies, and even some springer spaniels that really test the limits of their dog beds. It’s a safe bet that if they destroy their toys, they will usually disintegrate their beds in time.
Orvis is another company that guarantees their beds to be indestructible. If they are destroyed, they should be covered by a warranty. The testimonials were good, and they do offer a refund if your dog manages to rip it apart.
I have one word of warning on the subject of a Kevlar bed. Do not get a Kevlar bed for any reason due to the fact that it can cause great harm to a dog’s stomach lining and can cause irreparable harm and irreversible damage or even death. This type of product may be legal in some countries but I don’t believe it’s legal in the US. Just be aware of the risks and be safe when buying.
There are also specialty beds for dogs including all sorts of orthopedic beds including magnetic pet beds for dogs and other animals as well as waterproof beds and outdoor dog beds. If you dog stays in his crate at night, you can also find dog crate beds.
There is also memory foam bed, which is great for a dog with arthritis as well as any dog you want to spoil rotten with a luxury bed that will fit to your dog’s body. Or you might want to get a sofa dog bed.
If your pooch is not a real chewer, then you may want to look into a snuggle dog bed or a dog cave bed. They are kind of mini-tunnels that the dog can crawl into and it’s almost like a sleeping bag. A lot of dogs love them since they are open at both ends and the dog can burrow his or her way inside and snooze in a cozy and dark semi-enclosed environment.
There are a lot of choices and hopefully you will find the right bed for your beloved friend. In many cases, like anything else, you do get what you pay for and after all, you want to get a good dog bed. They will love you for it!
