Buy him his own bed and put it in your room so you can make sure he uses it, or if you don’t mind him on the sofa, put a cover on to stop the smell.

If you catch him on the sofa spray him with a little bit of water and he will be a bit shocked and realise that it was naughty for him to do that, but you have to do it until he stops. Also, when you get him off look straight into his eyes and say NO and send him to his bed and dont give him to much attention for about 10 mins. If this doesnt work get a dog blanket and put it on the sofa then during the da put it in his basket he will realise that the basket smells like him. Hope I Helped! x

Crate him at night….and clean your sofa. Both problems solved. :o )

There are several things you can do.

    1. Have the dog sleep in a kennel crate at night.
    2. Get a motion sensor alarm for the couch that bleats when a dog or cat jumps on it.
    3. Wash your dog at least once a week and he will not smell . Use dog shampoo not human shampoo the pH is different for dogs than humans.
    4. Febreeze the sofa.

    Good luck and be patient

Your best bet is to cover the couch with a sheet at the very least to keep it from getting dirty and smelly. At night you may want to put objects on the couch so there’s no room for him up there, like laundry baskets. Try getting him a nice comfy dog bed you can put somewhere out of the way for him so he has a soft place to sleep. Keep things on the couch until he gets in the habit of sleeping in his dog bed the slowly start testing him with the couch empty if you catch him on the sofa make him get off and bring him to his bed and praise him when he lays on his bed.

when we puppy sit our buddy’s 6 year old bassett hound who can get "funny" sometimes-we put stuff on the furniture to avoid that type of situation…like i said, he gets "funny" sometimes.
not anything heavey but put stuff on like empty boxes or light wieght chairs or something. not anything soft or else he would just jump ontop and be even comfier. it may be a hassle to have to do it for so long but with hm being that young and with a regular site and schedule of it he will soon relize he is not allowed on the sofa.
personally i dont think the sprays help. try crate training him in your room too. he may already be pretty well house trained but the crates can be used for other training besides house breaking. over time he will come to bed/bedroom on the floor with you guys instead of hanging out by himself. it will become habit.
good luck and remember-stay focused on your goal and with persistence comes accomplishments!

Cover your couch with a sheet. Some breeds are known couch potatoes. I think that’s the sheepdog part of it. My collie breeder said that some breeds like being off the ground when they sleep. I had to promise my breeder to let my dog on the couch. You could built something off the ground for your dog. With my collie i let him sleep with me sometimes but his place was next to me on a very flurry sleeping bag. GOOD LUCK!!

if you want to be able to trust him to roam the house and not get on the couch…there are no quick solutions! sorry! with training and alot of time you can teach him not to get on the couch!:) get his own doggy pillow for the floor (if you don’t already!) that will help with the transition!
quicker way: you could get him used to sleeping in a kennel at night!or another room (if you have a spare room or another room with a door so he can’t get out) these could also take him a little time to get used too! he may not like being restricted to a place where he can’t see you or can’t roam if he wanted!
a quick solution: you could also put an old blanket on your couch (at night if that’s the only time he jumps on the couch). that will help save you couch and should keep most of the "doggy" smell off of it (you can just pop the blanket in the washer!)
i know how you feel about you situation. we bought a brand new couch set and our dog Sandy jumps on it all the time..she sheds fur something awful!! i have to vacuum my couch at LEAST every second day! pain in the bum!!lol! i did have her trained until we brought home our new addition (yorkie) and we let him on the couch and couldn’t treat one different from the other! i’m in the process of getting her used to jumping on just one of the couches now though…so i don’t have to vacumm all 3 couches every other day!
oh and for the doggy smell that is on your couch i found freebreeze helps alot but you can also get products for fabrics that take the "doggy" smell out of them! i saw a few different kinds at walmart! hope that helps you and good luck!

Look up ‘Crate Training’. Then do it. And don’t let him on the couch in the daytime or anytime – it is off limits and you need to make that known to the dog.
