I had a 5lb yorkie who passed away a couple months ago, Im still in the grieving process. I am Little confused why the vet I took her to couldn’t figure out why she passed away. She started acting weird after I picked her up from a dog boarding place.
I went on a trip and felt it wasn’t right leaving her by herself at my apartment so decided it was better to take her to a dog "hotel". After i picked her up she started sneezing or "reverse sneezing" . I felt like it was from allegries because pollen is high and even I was getting sick.
The sneezing slowed down and she was barely doing it when all of a sudden I felt like she was becoming weak. She loved to be on the couch and bed but i started noticing that she couldn’t jump, i had to pick her up every time. I decided to take her to the vet last thursday, they told me she had allergies. That night she started throwing up, yellow through up that turned into foam. I thought it was maybe an allergic reaction to the medicine they gave me.
I took her to the vet the next day and they told me she was probably getting bronchitis. They gave me food to feed her at night and if she threw up I was to take her back the next day. She did, and was in Alto of pain all night. The next morning I was at the vet for 3 hrs, they took blood work and x-rays. Everything came back with good results, except for the x-rays. It showed something in her belly and had a "gas" bubble. The vet then suggested she probably ate something she shouldn’t had, like a sock or underwear. They said she should probably undergo surgery to remove it. All i wanted was to help my pet I didn’t know what I should do or not. She was in alot of pain whenever someone touched her stomach. I decided to let them do surgery on her. The vet called me throughout the day to tell me about my dog’s condition.
They didn’t find anything. I was really mad because they had cut her up for nothing. I was to take her home the following evening. The vet called me the night before and told me she was doing find, her Temperature was good and the dog seemed in good spirits. The following morning I get a call that she had died. I was in shock and couldn’t believe it. I really thought she was going to make it through. I’m still in awe what could have killed her. I decided not to have an autopsy performed because at the time I wasn’t thinking. Do you think maybe she picked up an infection or a virus at the boarding place? How could 3 vets not know what was wrong with her? Thank you.
btw, she was only 3 yrs old and a healthy pet, she had never been sick to this extreme, this was a complete shock.
i meant a couple days ago*
Did this happen to anyone else's pet?

I’m sorry you lost your dog. That’s the hardest thing to go through. The problem is, dogs can’t talk to us to tell us what’s wrong so vets really have to guess a lot of the time. If there’s a mystery it’s hard for a vet to figure out because they can only treat the symptoms they see. You should have done a necropsy if you wanted to know but now the only thing you can do is move on. Remember the good times you had with her. And definitely let the boarding place know she got sick there.

I’m very sorry for your loss! The only way that you have found out for sure what she died of, was to have a Necropsy, which is like a Human Autopsy done on your dog. When my Chihuahua Gigi passed away almost 2 years ago from Liver Disease, I had taken her to #4 different vets for treatment while she was sick, to see if anyone could do anything to help her. None of these vets were able to figure out how she even got the Liver Disease to begin with, because she was never sick a day in here life before this happened. So the only way that I could find out what the exact cause of Gigi’s death was, was to have a Necropsy done on her. We did and found out that the Liver Disease that Gigi got, was caused by a drug she was given by a vet, for a broken leg and had taken for a very short time called RIMADYL and the RIMADYL, is what caused Gigi to get Liver Disease and eventually caused her death.
