Dog Breed?

Posted August 21st, 2010 by admin

I am looking for a specific breed of dog that was used to guard scotland yard, are VERY territorial, and are very rare. I watched something on a discovery channel about them coming to the united states about a year ago. They are very large and furry. 100lbs plus! I know what they are NOT mastiffs, danes, shepards, etc. so please do not respond with answers of breeds that are VERY common!! Thanks! They are also very powerful animals that are very hard to tame, almost like they have a behavioral problem

Here is a list of "Flock Guardians" .. they are usually big furry breeds that you don’t see often.

I think you may be talking about the Akbash Dog?

Or maybe a Great Pyranese .. but those arent so ‘rare’.

Hope this helped! Good luck in searching!

Could it have been a Scottish Deer Hound? They are large, and were bred in Scotland to hunt large powerful game and could well have been used as a guard. They ar cousins of the Irish Wolf Hound, but more rare.

It isn’t a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. But I’m stumped.

Probably an ancestor of the Bouvier. Or Giant Schnauzer.

I put this answer on one of your repeat questions (you asked this three times, probably by accident), but I’m not sure you’ll see it, so I’m going to post it here as well.

You might be talking about the Tibetan Mastiff. They were just recognized by the ACK in 2005 and fit the physical description you gave. They are also very rare and often used as guard dogs.

Please let me know if this is it. If not, I’ll keep looking.
