You are going to have to take him to the Vet. This can happen as dogs get older, or it could be an infection which, if allowed to get worse, can be quite serious.

If it’s simply "leaking" there are pills that work well. My dog was on them for years and they really helped. For the Vet, you’re probably looking at a simple exam and urinalysis, which shouldn’t be too expensive, and I would imagine they would work something out with you to make payments. If not, call another vet. Make sure you bring a urine sample to your appointment!

First, you will need to take him to the vet eventually, although this is not an emergency. The vet needs to rule out a urinary tract infection (which is not likely to be the problem).

Your dog is probably suffering from mild age-related incontinence, due to a slight weakening of muscles in the pelvis. It can be treated with an inexpensive drug calle phenylpropanolamine a.k.a PPA. The trade name is Proin. It has few side effects and most dogs can be on it for years with no ill effects.

There are some natural remedies, but I haven’t tried any of them. My dog is on Proin and has been for years. One friend of mine cured her dog’s leaking by putting her on a no-grain diet.

Until you can get him to the vet, put an old towel on his bed, or get some puppy pads to put on the bed. Also, you can get a male wrap at the pet supermarket. Just remember to take it off when he goes out to pee.
