Well its not my rat, its my friends… she is about 3 months old, and seems to be nesting? they have only had her for 2 weeks.., she was very docile the first week, but now she is running around all crazy, and digging in her bedding like mad… I just want to make sure this is normal rat behavior, or is it something they should have checked out… All of your answers are appreciated… Thank you in advance!

My female is 56 days pregnant by counting the days on a calender. She is laying around a lot today, and not really wanting to eat anything. It looks like she is starting to sag in the nipple area I am assuming from the milk filling in. She has a soft pet bed that is for her and our male to sleep in during the day. She has nudged it around and is making circles in the bed and then laying back down. She has done this about 10 times in the past hour. She isn’t breathing heavy and her stomach isn’t contracting. I have made her a whelping box that she has been sleeping in for the past 2 weeks. She gets very protective over the bed and has jumped on our male dog for getting close to it. Now she has no interest in that bed, just the soft pet bed that’s in the living room. I have never been around a dog that is birthing puppies so this will be a new experience. Our male is now fixed so no more little accidents like this happen again. I have the vets number taped to the fridge in case I need to get her in ASAP.. He said when she starts going into labor to call him and he will wait for updates through out the day/night, and will be there ready if we need to bring her in for any emergency that may arise during this whole process. My question for everyone out there.. Is my female going into labor? The vet told me 57-63 days is 56 days to soon? I know for a fact my dogs have only tied once on the 18th of March. It was an accident that was my fault for not locking on up before letting the other outside during there restroom trips.

We have a five month old male and he is outgrowing the large crate so we are moving towards the great dane size crate. Because we have not had a puppy in 14 years, I do not remember when we started the transition from crate to bed. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My husband choked my dog, and head butted her along with hitting her several times. he thought she had peed on the bed, floor, and sofa when in reality it was him that was peeing everywhere (he was under the influence of prescription drugs and weed). i tried protecting her, but was unable too she tried nipping him but she was so helpless. thank God she doesn’t have any injuries but i just want to make sure she is ok mentally. i feel so horrible that this happend to her, i wish he would have done those things to me or an object in the room!

They were acting normal for the most part - they hadn’t been drinking but their diet has been the same, I’ve been using the same bedding nothing has changed about their enviroment. Just yesterday they were acting completely fine, what may have caused this?

I will be getting a 5 month old Golden Retriever soon. What are all the supplies do i need? and i mean EVERYTHING. From grooming,food,treats,toys,crate,dog house, dog bed, ect.. I Would like to have ALL of his stuff before i take him home. So that i can just devote my time to him, and not go crazy shopping once he’s arrived.

Not only generalize, but what would you recommend on a certain type of food? or treat? or your pet’s favorite toy? ect…

I have a 60lb Australian Shepherd who’s a great, well trained dog but for whatever reason he can’t resist chewing on blankets and soft dog beds. Nothing else, just blankets and soft dog beds. He has a metal crate but I really want to get a dog bed for him and put away the crate. Does anyone know of any comfy dog beds that he can’t destroy?

Which one of these pets cost the least amount of money? For the pets needs [Food, water, bed, toys, etc.] and for the pet? And which one do you like? And why?

So, I am hoping to add two new furry additions to my family soon. I’ve already posted a couple questions.. And I just have a few more.. Mainly to help me make some decision (I’m a horrible decision maker, and like other’s opinions), and help clear up a few things that I’ve been told different answers about…

I’ve been told by some that it is perfect. And I’ve been told by others that the rats will get out.. Which I would hate to have happen. I would be worried I wouldn’t able to find them…
The bars are more than a half inch a part, but not a full inch.
Would lady rats squeeze through?
Would males?
Would baby rats, no matter the gender?

Buying some cheap mesh wire to cover these bars while they are young would not be a problem for me. It would ultimately be cheaper than buying a new cage. However, as the rats reach adulthood, male or female, would they be able to squeeze through then? Or would I always have to leave a mesh wire over it?

Here is a few other things I’ve been trying to plan/decide and would mind a tid bit more advice on the subjects…:
For bedding and litter… Do I use the same thing? I would like to try to litter train my future rats, so would that be a bad thing to do?
Either way, I would thinking of using aspen for bedding. Should I use it for litter too?
Or can someone give me a better litter?
Is there a better bedding?

Toys: I believe I may stay away from buying toys for a bit and use ideas others have given me.. Such as cardboard toilet paper tubes, and small cardboard boxes. Anything else?

Bed: What is the best bed? I was considering getting a hammock. Would I need one for each rat? Or one for them to share? Or what a "nest box" be better? One for both? I’m a bit confused on the "nest box"…
And would the bedding go in there as well? Or would I let them take it in there if they want? Obviously there is some confusion here..

Food: I plan on feeding fresh fruits and veggies as well as small healthy treats like sunflower seeds and such. However, what about a main staple diet? People gave me some ideas, but I don’t think they carry it at my local pet store, and at the local chain PetCo.. I’m obviously stuck to what I can get at those places… So a brand that is healthier than the others?

Do you think my dogs can get along with my rats? I know my young golden will, he’s well behaved. I know my old lab will not care, she’s to old to care. But my 4lb, 5 month old chihuahua is what worries me. She’s fiesty! I can keep them seperate.. But can anyone give me advice on introducing them? How do you think the rats will react to such large animals in the house with us?

AND FINALLY!

Male or females?
I’ve looked up and read a lot of stuff… And I can’t decide!
I love that the males are bigger and will be more cuddly… But I hate that they will be marking everything and have big balls :/ But is the marking as bad as some of the things I read made it sound? I know my mom wouldn’t be pleased about a rat peeing on everything…
I love that the females will be curious, but will they WANT to be held and loved on? Will they WANT to ever sit on my shoulders and lap? How much smaller are they than males?

So what are the opinions of everyone who’s had rats? Which did you like better? Can you give me more info on this to help maybe make up my mind…?

Oh yea… And I’ve been reading about "types" of rats…
Other than standard, can you usually find dumbo or hairless or other types at stores like PetCo? And how much bigger would a dumbo female be when compared to a standard? Any different in personality here…?

Sorry for so many questions and words! I’ve asked a lot of this before.. I’d really just like some help and some things cleared up for me… And anything new is great too!

Also, I’ve never actually known anyone personally with rats.. So this is completly new to me! So I’m research and trying to find out as much as possible! Talking with other people is the best way to learn.. Is what I’ve found with my other pets…

If someone could post a link to a different (maybe smaller) cage that is just perfect for two rats.. And decently priced.. I may consider a different cage all together…

We are in our 3rd week of having our adopted 8 month old rescue Poodle. He has come a little ways in the 3 weeks, but not far. He no longer hides 24-7, he’ll come sit at the end of the sofa, he’ll come when you call him but stops far enough away that you cant pet him. A couple times Ive had to corner him, once for a flea bath, then to put the drops on him and once to clean his ears and he tried to snip at me, after it was over he seemed ok and "happy". He runs around and wags his tail, and takes treats from our hand occasionally. Im overwhelmed by the fact that he NEVER lets us pet him, that he snips at us, and that he is still terrified of all humans except us, and any loud noise sends him running under the bed. He does interact with and play with our other little Poodle very well, but its sad he wont let us give him affection, and hes so cute you just want to snuggle with the lil guy. What can I do?

I’ve washed my bedding and gave my poor cat a bath/ medicine and brushed her with a flea comb. I feel like im getting them now but im sure im not. Is it ok for me to sleep in the same bed with her just because im sure that while im sleeping she jump up and sleep with me like normal…please help!

My 2 female dogs- golden retriever & Alsation - Choco & Cherry are 6 months old……..should I let ‘em sleep on my bed? They usually don’t chew up stuffs….but they’ve a bad habit of carrying stuffs to their kennel….like cushions, bottle caps, scarfs, shiny objects like spoon….what do you think? Also do you have dogs who has a bad habit of carrying away stuff?
Also my dogs hate water…they don’t like to bath even the golden retriever….what to do?
