I purchased a polyester cat bed for my cat. It took me months for her to finally use it. I put cat nip in it now she sleeps in it every night.
Now I want to wash it, but I am wondering if I can wash it in the laundromat. Will she no longer use it because her scent is gone? Will the polyester shrink or get destroyed? It’s a round polyester cat bed and it’s very soft like a pillow.

Don’t wash it quite yet.
Add a small piece of blanket to it, just enough to cover most of the interior. Let her sleep on that for a week or so.
The bring the cat bed to the laundromat and wash it on gently cycle using an unscented detergent. Only use about 1/3 the amount of detergent the package recommends too.
Dry it on low heat.
When it is dry put it back where it was with the blanket liner inside which will have her scent. You can remove the blanket after a few days.
Washing polyester doesn’t shrink it. It should be fine.

Put it in the washer like you would clothes. And then see if she uses it. If she doesn’t then put the catnip back in

There should be washing instructions, either with a tag on the bed, or instructions where you bought it. Usually, washing a normal cycle with detergent is all you need. Depending on the stuffing, it might take a long time to dry.
But why are you washing it? If it looks dirty, that is one thing. But if not, then wait until it does. You can take a rag and try and gather off the fur, and then put it back on the bed afterwards.
Generally, since a cat’s sense of smell is much better then ours, a usual wash does not remove all the scent that she recognizes.
Perhaps wiping it down with a damp cloth will be all that is needed to make it look like new again.

i wash my cats bedding all the time and he gets right back on it as soon as its out of the dryer . you don’t have to worry about washing away the smell. they know ITS theirs . as far as shrinking something that’s polyester i wouldn’t worry about ruining it , that material is pretty durable and anything made specifically for cats can definitely go in the wash.
