Getting The Best Dog Bed
If you own a dog, especially an older one, getting a good dog bed is a really great gift to give your beloved pet. The need a good place to rest and sleep just like us. After all, you wouldn't want to bed down in an uncomfortable mattress or sleep on a hard surface all night.
Sleeping on the floor or even on a bad or uneven bed isn't the best thing for a dog to do. As they get older it becomes even more important that they have a really good dog bed to sleep in.
The other reason to get a dog bed is, of course, to keep them off of yours or off of the best couch in the house. If you don't want them all over your furniture, get them a comfortable bed of their own that they will love and use for a long time.
From the simplest dog beds to the more elaborate types, there are many to choose from. Some are more or less like large bean bags, some are donuts or round pet beds. There are also bolster dog beds, which have sort of a pillow going all around the outer edge of the bed. Dogs like to use this as a pillow for their head while they sleep. Then there is the orthopedic dog bed and memory foam beds, which are among the best you can get.
There are also outdoor dog beds which are made for outdoor areas like the back porch and there are also heated dog beds. These are great for dogs, especially during the cold winter months. Even when you have the heat in the house cranked up, the floor can sometimes stay cold and it's not good for your dogs bones and joints. A heated dog bed will keep your canine pal comfy and warm the whole time like a warm blanket.
Another option you may want to look into is getting a waterproof dog bed. We have all taken our dog out for a walk when it is raining and wet outside. Whether we want to or not, we have to go out on those miserable days when the rain is pouring and we both get soaked. After a good towel dry, dogs still have some moisture left on their coat and skin. The nice part about a waterproof dog bed is that your dog can lay on this type of pet bed without getting it soaked on the inside where the water stays put. These beds are made for this so they do not get ruined every time your water soaked pooch rests on them. For those dogs that prefer to stay out on the porch or outside near their kennel or dog house, they are much happier on a waterproof bed than a conventional one that soaks up the water. It's not only a comfortable resting spot for sleeping and lying down, but it will last longer too.
Not all dog beds are the same just as not all dogs age the same. When your dog gets older, he or she will most likely develop the same types of aches and pains due to joint problems that humans do. When your dog starts to slow down due to joint pain, inflammation and arthritis, the best thing you can do is to look into getting them a memory foam dog bed.
As soon as your are aware that you dog is suffering from orthopedic issues, the floor is simply not a good place for them to sleep. Even a conventional dog bed just will not do. The even balance of a dog's weight is more important at this stage of their life than at any time before. A bumpy or uneven bed is not good for the existing joint pain and can actually worsen the dog's problems over time.

I thought the commercial was very funny but I agree, it is hard to explain to children.

Tell her that the doggie went to doggie heaven to be with its Friends, all the other doggies. Explain to her that it just isn’t the truth.
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
You tell her very directly and very kindly that there is no such thing as resurrection spray. That not everything in commercials is real and that fido can’t come back. Be sure and tell her that he doesn’t hurt anymore and fido can never be sad again.
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
If YOU tell her, she would hate YOU because you were the one who told her the bad news (in other words she’ll shoot the messenger).
BUT, you can buy a can of regular hairspray or something, spray it on the dog, or where it was buried, and blame Yahoo for "lying to her" and say you’re disappointed too. That way, you can both be disappointed, and she wouldn’t feel that sad knowing that someone feels the same way she does.

tell her it went to heaven in the movie and tell her its not real but it can happen in real life.resurection spray won’t work.

Take some Baby powder mixed with corn meal over and tell her that it a special mix fertilizer. Put it in the dogs grave. When the dog doesn’t come back tell her that you can not make everything grow back.

WTF? I can’t believe there’s a commercial like that.
Best bet would be to tell her the truth, that Yahoo made up a stupid idea for a commercial, and that the dog isn’t coming back.
But that there are plenty of dogs that need homes from shelters, and that she can get one when she feels better.
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
We just saw that commercial, too.
Just tell her that tv is not real and show her something with Elmo on it.
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
You should show her the movie Pet Sematary. She’ll get a kick out of it, and by the end of the film, no one will have to tell her that there’s no fertilizer to bring a pet dog back to life, because she won’t want it to come back to life.

Very Gently
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
just tell her that it only helps grow dead plants

Tell her that the dog is a star now. That’s what I told my kids when their dog passed away.I also told them since their grandma passed away too that they were in heaven taking care of eachother. When my kids miss them they find a star and talk to it as if they were talking to them.

I saw that commercial on the Internet, never on TV…. have you?
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
Oh GOD!!! That is awful, that YAHOO (with such a good name) would be stupid enuff to put some bull chit on a commercial as that….ESPECIALLY FOR A CHILD TO SEE.
Tell her the truth, there is no such thing, and tell her he went to rainbow bridge, he’s running jumping with all the other doggie friends, he’s no longer in pain anymore….he hurt when he was here…and there is a bunch of cousins and etc at the animal shelter waiting to come home to the wonderful home and family that he had for so many years.
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
Explain about a doggie heaven. I’m 58 and no one can convince me otherwise…..I refuse to consider any facts, but prefer the hope for a doggie Heaven. And it doesn’t hurt anyone or anything.
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
You need to tell her the truth in a gentle way. I’m convinced my father is taking care of all 4 of my pets till I get there to help. My mom said she will tell them I miss them when she gets there.

Hmmmm I found the commercial to alittle amusing myself, and dvr’d it. However, a few of my friends who are all into politics wondered how long the commerical would last because of situations like this. A parent should be able to come up with answers even more so in explaining that there are things and items on tv that are not real, that are for amusement purposes only and marketing ploys set up by corporations to induce a "did I just see that" aka shock and awe.
Just like the Pepsi commercial with the goldfish-I am sure this commercial because of problems will be removed shortly…
Then again from a political point of view-freedom of speech, and press are likely to be repressed for the corporations in re of liberalites demanding sensorship. Thanks.
August 27th, 2011 - 9:26 pm
Tell her as gently as you can that the commercial was only pretend, then help her to read the story of the Rainbow Bridge. If it makes her feel better to draw her dog friend at the bridge, surrounded by all of his friends waiting to be reunited with their people, help her to do that too. Children grieve differently than adults, but it doesn’t hurt any less.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
