How does my dog have ticks?

Posted September 5th, 2010 by admin

I recently discovered that my dog has ticks, and I don’t understand why because we keep our yard very clean, our grass mowed, and bushes trimmed. We live in the suburbs outside of Dallas. How did my dog get ticks? By now they’re around the house (my daughter found one on her leg the other day and didn’t know it was one until my discovery). How can I get rid of them? I also have another dog, and two cats. Help!

your dog could have picked up the ticks from any where you walk, even just a small area of grass.

try treating with a product called frontline it will help repel ticks for a month and fleas for 2 months, all it is is a spot on to the back of the neck.

Flea collars and tick repellent products you can buy at any pet store or vets.
    Avoid high grass.
    Check your pets regularly.

It could be from outside and them getting in from open windows and such. You could get your house sprayed by an exterminator or something or other. Usually there are local exterminators so you could ask them about it also. Because I am not very professional. And i also believe that even if your yard is clean, they could still get in because it is there habitat. Outside, i mean. Hope i could help!

Ticks will not die even if you maintain your lawn. The will keep reproducing, sadly. But there is a solution! Get some medication from your Vet. If possible, invest in a flea collar! Hope this helps!

You will have to treat your yard every 2 weeks for 8 weeks to be sure you have killed off every adult, baby, eggs. Due to the life cycle of the tick it will take several treatments to get rid of all of them. But if you have ticks in your yard you know they are in other yards & can come crawling back into your yard. So after the initial 8 week treatment you will need to treat the yard once a month there after.

I have done this many times to my yard but the ticks are so thick where I live that the treatment doesn’t work. I think the ticks have developed a immunity to the specific poison I have used.

I have always used Pyrethrins but now I need to change poisons. Pyrethrins are a fast kill & I much prefer to use that but if the ticks here have developed an immunity to it it does me no good to use it.

Your going to have to spray your yard and apply flea/tick meds to your dog there are powders you can sprinkle on your rugs and vacuum up don’t let your dog on beds or sofa.
