The first week I had my puppy I had her inside all day and would occasionally have accidents on the carpet when I didn’t take her outside on time. I would clean it right away to make sure that it wouldn’t happen again. This week though I’ve had her outside and inside to get used to it , and she acts all crazy when she comes inside she will get hyper and excited, then she’ll sniff the carpet , the exact same spots and runs in a circle from one end of the sofa to the other. She sniffs and then licks or will try to dig the carpet at the same spots or around the same spots. She did this before a bit but got worse after I shampooed my carpet with a pet deodorizer. She sniffs where her bed used to be and the leg of the sofa. When I pick her up she feels tense and gets mad and starts to growl at me or try to bite me. She always had a bit of a bitting problem , but i though that it was because of her teething. Now im not sure if she is acting this way because I dont see her as much or arent giving her enough exercise.

The first step in solving any behavior problem is to make an appointment with your veterinarian; it’s possible your dog is struggling with an unseen health issue. A dog who is constantly licking may just need something better to do, but she could be suffering from gastric reflux, allergies, or other ailments. A thorough veterinary checkup will help you rule out physical reasons for the behavior.

Constant licking can occur for many reasons. As with most annoying dog habits, the key is to focus on what you’d like your dog to do, not what you’d like her to stop doing. Try stuffing a Kong toy with kibble, mashed potato, or bits of chopped up leftovers and freezing it. Give her the Kong when you’re watching TV (or at other times she’s likely to start licking), and praise her for focusing on her new activity.
