he will sleep in a shoebox, but not the expensive cat bed. i guess it’s not a big deal but a cat bed just looks nicer sitting on the floor than a shoebox, ya know? i wonder why he does this.

yes wash it-try to guess how many cat owners touched that bed with the scent from their cat on their hands-yours was just marking his space-after washing put one of your shirts on it that your have worn and hadnt cleaned yet-it will than smell right

    1. Cats like to pee on soft things.
    2. Cats wear a fur coat, so they like to sleep on cool things unless it is cold. Then they like to sleep on warm things like computer monitors or by the bottom of the refrigerator.

There must have been a smell on it.

Your cat considers the "new bed" as a litterbox. Get a litterbox and move the "new bed" to where the shoe box is.

    he’s marking his territory
    i think
or maybe he doesn’t like expensive cat beds? my cat only eats cheap stale dog food. he’s weird like that.

he is just marking his territory. But when you first got him and he slept in a box it will be hard to ween him out of the box. But try to put the box in the cat bed then as time goes on remove the box.

Maybe he’s just used to it. Maybe the shoebox is just the right size and the cat bed is too big. Who knows, you can sell the bed easily on eBay.

some cats think everything is a litterbox exspecally softthings

First of all, that cat bed must have been used by a male cat and then returned. And second of all, cats like to sleep in cool places except if it is cold.

did you get the bed from a petstore? maybe another pet was in the bed in the store so he smells it, and had to mark his territory.
