I think my dog is agressive?

Posted September 9th, 2010 by admin

I think someof it I am to blame but here are the symptoms: Snapping and snarling when petted, groomed, or lifted; Mabye dominance agression, bites, dislike being pushed from sofas and beds. How can I stop this? I kinda do "hit" her when shes bad but like tapping more like, idk if I tease her. PLEASE HELP ME AND DO NOT JUDGE ME, I AM NICE TO HER BUT I DO DISCIPLINE HER WHEN SHES BAD LIKE THE REMOVAL COMMAND AND TAPPING HER. NOT HITTING. She has been slapped in the past but not by me. I use positive reinforcement training.

No dog is born aggressive, they learn to be through situation and circumstances, which include fear and anxiety, unclear signals that lead to confusion, aggression towards them, and possessiveness. i think this is the lack of socialisation , and consistent, correct training is usually the cause… i have a golden retriever which is eight months old, he likes to jump up at me and hump my leg, and if i refuse, he would bite me. I also deal with this by beating him like tapping his butt, and give him a stern warning.. Actually, by snapping and growling at someone, be it a particular food bowl, or anyone, it is a way of saying that it is his and no body should take it away from it. yes, a very aggressive dog should be caned and disciplined by a person with authority. if otherwise don’t work, bring it to the vet for advise, and assistance. maybe the past experience of being slapped has made it really ferocious now, so you will have to deal with this by petting or stroking her after she had calmed down, and praise her simultaneously.. only if she’s bad, do you slap or scold her..this is the time to show your love towards it, and let her gain your trust again…trust me, every dog small or big, wants love, care and attention.. when she growls, give her a stern command,"don’t growl!" and when she doesn’t growl, praise her. BUT… do not praise the dog for growling or snarling… because, by doing that, you are actually encouraging the dog to be aggressive. and when your dog is eating from her food bowl and you touch her, she growls, that is actually food guarding. do not disturb the dog, you will get injured! you can deal with this by keeping your distance away from her and only collect her bowl after she finish licking everything from the food bowl.. if you go to the vet, the vet might give you suggestions on how to deal with this better, such as carrying your dog, grooming your dog and training tips… hope this will help you understand your dog better….
