We have loved our policy with Pets Best and signed our pup up before anything could be considered pre-existing (part of the fine-print mentioned above). Pet insurance, like all insurance, doesn’t cover everything. We took it out in case of major accident or illness understanding that some things, like hip dysplasia and parasites, aren’t covered. I still think it’s worth it, or I wouldn’t have purchased it. :o )

I’ve heard of too many high vet bills from friends and family who didn’t know how they were going to afford it and had to face the choice of putting the dog down or finding some way to pay the bill.

I thought briefly about the savings idea, but 1) I’m terrible at saving money and 2) what happens if the $3000 accident or illness happens this year or next year and I’ve only saved $600?

I’d rather pay the $35/month and know that I only have to come up with my $75 deductible and 20% of the bill. It really is a relief not to have to worry about huge vet bills when I hear of so many others who are kicking themselves for not purchasing the insurance earlier.

To go back to your original question, we felt like Pets Best gave us the most bang for our buck (i.e. reasonable premiums and more money back in reimbursements than some of the other companies). Good luck!

Sorry I don’t know one, however I just wanted to let you know to read the fine print before signing up. I looked into insurance for mine and decided it wasn’t worth it. The fine print in all of them contained things like breed specific disorders and such. IE., Saints are susceptible to hip dysplasia so any related treatment wouldn’t be covered and so on. Perhaps, if you’re good at managing your funds, you should consider a savings account for puppy emergencies! ING DIRECT pays about 5% interest, also you get $25 dollars when you sign up (if you use a referralal, the referrer gets $10) this way here you’re saving and earning! BOL with your search and your puppy
