Getting The Best Dog Bed
If you own a dog, especially an older one, getting a good dog bed is a really great gift to give your beloved pet. The need a good place to rest and sleep just like us. After all, you wouldn't want to bed down in an uncomfortable mattress or sleep on a hard surface all night.
Sleeping on the floor or even on a bad or uneven bed isn't the best thing for a dog to do. As they get older it becomes even more important that they have a really good dog bed to sleep in.
The other reason to get a dog bed is, of course, to keep them off of yours or off of the best couch in the house. If you don't want them all over your furniture, get them a comfortable bed of their own that they will love and use for a long time.
From the simplest dog beds to the more elaborate types, there are many to choose from. Some are more or less like large bean bags, some are donuts or round pet beds. There are also bolster dog beds, which have sort of a pillow going all around the outer edge of the bed. Dogs like to use this as a pillow for their head while they sleep. Then there is the orthopedic dog bed and memory foam beds, which are among the best you can get.
There are also outdoor dog beds which are made for outdoor areas like the back porch and there are also heated dog beds. These are great for dogs, especially during the cold winter months. Even when you have the heat in the house cranked up, the floor can sometimes stay cold and it's not good for your dogs bones and joints. A heated dog bed will keep your canine pal comfy and warm the whole time like a warm blanket.
Another option you may want to look into is getting a waterproof dog bed. We have all taken our dog out for a walk when it is raining and wet outside. Whether we want to or not, we have to go out on those miserable days when the rain is pouring and we both get soaked. After a good towel dry, dogs still have some moisture left on their coat and skin. The nice part about a waterproof dog bed is that your dog can lay on this type of pet bed without getting it soaked on the inside where the water stays put. These beds are made for this so they do not get ruined every time your water soaked pooch rests on them. For those dogs that prefer to stay out on the porch or outside near their kennel or dog house, they are much happier on a waterproof bed than a conventional one that soaks up the water. It's not only a comfortable resting spot for sleeping and lying down, but it will last longer too.
Not all dog beds are the same just as not all dogs age the same. When your dog gets older, he or she will most likely develop the same types of aches and pains due to joint problems that humans do. When your dog starts to slow down due to joint pain, inflammation and arthritis, the best thing you can do is to look into getting them a memory foam dog bed.
As soon as your are aware that you dog is suffering from orthopedic issues, the floor is simply not a good place for them to sleep. Even a conventional dog bed just will not do. The even balance of a dog's weight is more important at this stage of their life than at any time before. A bumpy or uneven bed is not good for the existing joint pain and can actually worsen the dog's problems over time.

Petplan is the highest rated. Their premiums are a bit higher but they also pay out a lot more and have a much higher satisfaction rate. I think they are the best out there.

I researched several pet insurance policies and decided to open a bank account for vet expenses. Instead of paying a company a monthly insurance fee i just deposit the money in the vet emergency account.

Friends of mine sing the praises of Pet Plan: http://www.gopetplan.com/
I’ve also heard good reports about Petcare: http://www.petcareinsurance.com/
It really all depends on the level of coverage you’re seeking, and what you want it to include – many insurers cover not just medical bills but also the purchase cost of your pet if he goes missing or dies, funding for advertising if he gets lost, emergency kennelling et al. Not all owners find that the higher premiums justify those things.
Personally, I’d always advise owners to make sure their policy has lifetime cover – whereby you’re covered for all treatment every year for the rest of your dogs’ life if your dog were to be diagnosed with a chronic, life-long or terminal illness such as diabetes, cancer, kidney problems. And always read small-print.

Banfield Pet Hospital’s that are within Petsmart stores have a plan for dogs & cats that is called "Wellness Plan"….
If your pet is 6 months or younger than it’s a 1 time membership fee of $99.95 and then either $21.95/month or $16.95/month (1 yr contract and then u can cancel or it will renew). Higher price plan covers a free spay or neuter.
Along with the plan you get free office visits, discounted meds for your pet, complete physical exams that include teeth, eye, fecal, heartworm tests, deworming and ALL their vaccines, bloodwork…..etc……
You save Lots of money by signing up for this plan vs…paying out of pocket. Also if you’re on this plan you have priority over clients that are not on the plan.
If the pet is over 6 months old, then there is also an adult Wellness Plan. Membership fee is $69.95 and there is 4 different levels to choose from, ranging from $18.95 (?) to $35.95. Some of the plans cover dental cleaning, x-ray’s and etc…..
In the area I live in Vet’s have to see each & every the pet and the tech’s just assist.

At my vets office we give out pamphlets for VPI. The only thing that sucks about pet insurance is if it is an ongoing problem they won’t cover it.. It’s best to get it when you get a puppy.

I got my dog Pet Plan pet insurance, and it is amazing. I have 0% coinsurance and a $50 deductible. They even cover hereditary conditions like hip dysplasia, which most other insurance companies dont cover. They also cover each condition for life, with no limit on time or cost. Other insurance companies will only cover a specific condition up to a certain dollar amount.
My puppy is only 10 months old and she just had a Mast Cell Tumor (Cancer) removed. The biopsy and tumor removal surgery has cost almost $1,000 so far, and ALL but my deductible was covered. So i only paid $50! We do not know yet if she will need Chemo, but that will also be covered.
She has also been in the ER for eating gum, and that too was 100% covered aside from my deductible.
I really like PetPlan because they are the only company that gives you the option to choose your coinsurance and deductible. You pick what % of the treatment you are responsible for and the deductible you pay for each incident.
I have the the Gold Plan (the best one) and it is $34 a month. Other plans are cheaper. The Gold plan also pays for Boarding and Kennel Fees, Advertising and Rewards if your dog goes missing, the price you paid for the dog if it does not return, the price of the dog if he/she must be put down or dies due to illness or injury, and travel expenses that cannot be reimbursed if you must cancel due to your animals illness or injury.
I love Petplan and they are sooo helpful! My dog also has chronic ear infections and they pay for every visit and all the medication!
So, if you have petplan and your dog gets hurt or sick, they will cover it. And if you need to go to an after hours ER vet clinic, they will also pay for this if it is to save your dogs life. If it is not life threatening, they will pay 70% (because you could have went to your regular vet).
Overall its great! I chose it after months of research and talking to vets.

I don’t use pet insurance, you usually have to pay up front for vet bills then the insurance co. refunds some of the money. Instead I have a savings account just for vet care , $100 a month adds up quickly.
