what is the average age for a dog to begin to start showing signs of arthritis, and what are some signs?

I am looking for a dog bed for my dog that has cancer and arthritis. Most memory foam is toxic and off gasses. I heard gel-filled beds are really good. Anyone have experience with these beds?
