I have noticed when I go out and play with my dog me & him are getting ate up by mosquitos. I want to get a spray I can spray on him so none of those bugs bite him.

I was told a layer of straw would help prevent bugs and fruit rot in my strawberry container garden. Straw is not easily available where I live, but I can get pet bedding such as pine or aspen shavings. Would that work, or would it hurt the soil/plants? Thanks!
