For several years, I have helped this couple (friends of my parents) take care of their 2 large dogs for occasionally throughout the year, and would help look after the dogs throughout the year (they walked the dogs once a week and just let them out in the backyard, they were too lazy to bathe the dogs and asked me to do it for them for free. And sometimes they were "busy" so they asked me to let the dogs out as well). I would have to let the dogs out at 7 in the morning and then leave at 11 (take them out for a walk so they go to to the bathroom before bed. Basically I am there almost the whole day for over a week to help babysit the dogs).

They were too cheap to buy dog treats and toys, so I bought them (I am a university student and have a limited cash flow). The wife said the dogs wouldn’t have treats (Dentabones for their teeth, Milkbones for a snack) because the husband did not want to pay money for them (he was a cheap person).

This summer, I took some watermelon out of the fridge and gave some to the dogs (around 2 medium slices). I thought it was hot and I had helped walk the dogs a lot and take care of their dogs for free and paid for their treats, and that it was for the dogs, and because watermelon is relatively big and cheap, that they wouldn’t mind if I gave a little bit of watermelon to the dogs. Later, the wife called me and told me that her husband was very upset with me (he is thin skinned) and scolded me for taking the watermelon.

In my opinion you should leave this guy behind because he obviously doesn’t care enough for his dogs.
