Getting The Best Dog Bed
If you own a dog, especially an older one, getting a good dog bed is a really great gift to give your beloved pet. The need a good place to rest and sleep just like us. After all, you wouldn't want to bed down in an uncomfortable mattress or sleep on a hard surface all night.
Sleeping on the floor or even on a bad or uneven bed isn't the best thing for a dog to do. As they get older it becomes even more important that they have a really good dog bed to sleep in.
The other reason to get a dog bed is, of course, to keep them off of yours or off of the best couch in the house. If you don't want them all over your furniture, get them a comfortable bed of their own that they will love and use for a long time.
From the simplest dog beds to the more elaborate types, there are many to choose from. Some are more or less like large bean bags, some are donuts or round pet beds. There are also bolster dog beds, which have sort of a pillow going all around the outer edge of the bed. Dogs like to use this as a pillow for their head while they sleep. Then there is the orthopedic dog bed and memory foam beds, which are among the best you can get.
There are also outdoor dog beds which are made for outdoor areas like the back porch and there are also heated dog beds. These are great for dogs, especially during the cold winter months. Even when you have the heat in the house cranked up, the floor can sometimes stay cold and it's not good for your dogs bones and joints. A heated dog bed will keep your canine pal comfy and warm the whole time like a warm blanket.
Another option you may want to look into is getting a waterproof dog bed. We have all taken our dog out for a walk when it is raining and wet outside. Whether we want to or not, we have to go out on those miserable days when the rain is pouring and we both get soaked. After a good towel dry, dogs still have some moisture left on their coat and skin. The nice part about a waterproof dog bed is that your dog can lay on this type of pet bed without getting it soaked on the inside where the water stays put. These beds are made for this so they do not get ruined every time your water soaked pooch rests on them. For those dogs that prefer to stay out on the porch or outside near their kennel or dog house, they are much happier on a waterproof bed than a conventional one that soaks up the water. It's not only a comfortable resting spot for sleeping and lying down, but it will last longer too.
Not all dog beds are the same just as not all dogs age the same. When your dog gets older, he or she will most likely develop the same types of aches and pains due to joint problems that humans do. When your dog starts to slow down due to joint pain, inflammation and arthritis, the best thing you can do is to look into getting them a memory foam dog bed.
As soon as your are aware that you dog is suffering from orthopedic issues, the floor is simply not a good place for them to sleep. Even a conventional dog bed just will not do. The even balance of a dog's weight is more important at this stage of their life than at any time before. A bumpy or uneven bed is not good for the existing joint pain and can actually worsen the dog's problems over time.

bitter apple spray. im going to discourage the use of foam anything. if she swallows any of it there is a high risk of intestinal blockage. this could result is a very sick dog and 1000′s of dollars is vet bills.
Provide the dog with plenty of his own toys and chew bones; introduce something new every day or two.
- Give the dog a “single serving” chew bone once or twice a day—something he will finish in one chew session (i.e. Greenie, Dentabone, rawhide chip, etc.).
- Identify the times of the day when your dog is likely to chew, and give him a stuffed Kong, Goodie Ship, or Buster Cube at this time. You can include some of his daily ration of food in the toy.
- Discourage chewing inappropriate items with chewing deterrents, such as Bitter Apple or Chew Guard* (see below for application tips).
- Always supervise your dog. If you see him licking or chewing an item he shouldn’t, say “uh uh,” remove the item from his mouth and insert something that he can chew. Be sure to praise him.
- Booby-trap the counters and tables to discourage the dog from jumping up. You can try double-sided sticky tape, cookie sheets placed precariously so they fall down if the dog touches them and a pyramid of empty soda cans all tied together and placed so that they fall if the dog touches them (you can tie to a small tidbit of food to this contraption). You can also place “baits” to be stolen: food adulterated with bad-tasting substances, such as Tabasco or Bitter Apple.
WHAT NOT TO DO:
- Do not show the dog the damage and spank, scold, or punish him after the fact.
- There are dog training books still being published today that advocate dangerous and inhumane techniques, such as using duct tape to hold a dog’s mouth closed around a chewed object, or filling a hole with water and holding a dog’s head under. Just in case it’s not obvious—methods such as these are ineffective and horribly cruel!
- Do not crate the dog for lengthy periods of time to prevent destructive chewing.

We had to get rid of the foam bed. As for chewing anyting else they make a bitter apple spray you can spray on other things she might chew on. It works well. Stopped ours from chewing on power cords. I did not spray the bed because it would get all over him.

use a blanket to start with.Something small.Put alot of toys with the puppy so it knows what to chew on.Do not use soxs or shoes like people used to do.Give the puppy a treat when it chews on the toys and tell it no when on the blanket.Don’t forget the wee wee pad as well. When playing with the puppy, only let it chew on the toys. Not the furniture or your hands. If it goes for thase, say no then put a toy in its mouth then say good boy/girl.Be consistant and it will work.Did for my chihuahuas.Good Luck.

Lots of dogs will chew when they’re bored. How much time in a day do you spend walking/playing with her? It also sounds like she might like some good toys to chew on. I’ve found that my dog likes to have soft AND hard things to chew on plus she has to have something that makes alot of noise. It’s really cut down on her chewing on everything.
Sidenote: I’ve found that yelling never works – especially one with a possible history of abuse. It will just make her afraid of you – while it might teach her to listen it won’t teach her to trust you.

its just a 1yr old pup,, lil puppies like chewing on things,, just like lil babies like to bite other kids lol.. its about there sensitive teeth thats it,, you shouldnt yell at your dog just buy a dog chew toy and let him/her chew on it,, it should work out dont worry

If that’s the only thing she chews then just take that away from her. The texture may appeal to her. This happens with many dogs and beds. You need to experiment with what materials you can leave her with without her chewing them. Try towels and soft fleece throws.

put her in a dog fighting competion and see if she wins

Give her a nyla bone. do not give her a raw hide bone. they dont desolve that great. Cause i gave my dog a raw hide bone once, and he got a piece stuck in his throat. so i switched 2 nyla bones. So, shes still a puppy. try 2 put her in a crate during the day.

Put some bitter apple spray on it. The dogs hate the taste and will stop chewing. and like everyone else says give her plenty of chew toys to take her mind off chewing her bed.

Do you walk her? This might help. Also, you should give her some toys to play with. Make sure they’re designed for strong chewers. I’d recommend getting your dog a KONG. It’s a toy that you can put treats in, and my dog loves hers. Your could also try taking her to a trainer. That would help teach her how to behave properly. Mainly, just find things to keep her busy. Give her a "job" to do to take her mind off chewing up her bed.

the best thing to do is buy him/her chewing bones or toys.bones usually work the best with most dogs.
