Personally, I recommend cork. It’s resilient, soft, antibacterial and easy to clean.

If you do go with it, make sure you buy a quality product. While it is excellent for dogs joints, it is soft and if you don’t get a quality product, it can scratch or gouge.

I had an older dog with this same problem and I went to Lowe’s and bought some inexpensive rubber backed carpet runners to put on my kitchen floor, and foyer tile floors. It worked great for her and helped keep the dirt from being tracked onto my living room carpet. You can get it cut to whatever lenght you want.

Get a couple rugs and cover the area the dog walks on! or rubber mats!

If you don’t want to put rug down, which is probably not practical in a kitchen really.. you might want to try Shaw’s Paw Wax.. it’s supposed to help keep the dogs from slipping.. http://www.dogcatetc.com/019cl-s091.html

I have put down throw rugs with grip backing to help both older dogs and cats walk across slick surfaces which gave them no"traction" and made them afraid.

Rough lino should do the trick??

I just got the dogs winter catalog from Dr. Foster & Smith and they had some sticky pads that go onto the dog’s pads like bandaids, and were non-skid. They were thin, didn’t seem to be hard to apply, and would help the dog on slick surfaces indoors.

I tried looking online for it but it’s not in their online catalog. You can contact them via email though. It did look like a good idea.

Carpet is the best thing for an arthritic dog to walk on. Or you can get non slip booties.
