I have a Golden Retriever who is 7 years old, but he is getting very gray in the face. He’s still pretty active but I can tell that he is slowing down just a bit. What is the life expectancy of a golden retriever?

About 10-12 years or more depending on its lifestyle

11 or 13 years old is how old MOST large Dogs live to, though depending on the Dog and breed, they can live longer. Tibeten Massiffs can live up to 16 years old!

Almost everyone in my family has golden retrievers, and they live for a decent amount of time. About 12-15 years or over. Right now, my neighbor has one who is 10.

10 – 12. But, of course dogs are much like people in that some go at 57, others last ’til 97. Ya just never know.

From a reputable breeder that does genetic testing about the same as a Lab – 10-15 yrs. Our Lab just turned 8 yrs old and I can see signs of aging in her now.

Larger breeds tend to have a shorter life span than smaller breeds, but it really depends on the care you’ve provided your dog over the years. Regular physical examinations and immunizations can extend a dog’s life, but every dog is different. At 7 years old, your goldie may be slowing down a bit, but with proper care for his joints, his coat, proper feeding for a senior dog and not expecting as much of him as you did when he was a puppy will probably allow him to live for another three or four years.
