Getting The Best Dog Bed
If you own a dog, especially an older one, getting a good dog bed is a really great gift to give your beloved pet. The need a good place to rest and sleep just like us. After all, you wouldn't want to bed down in an uncomfortable mattress or sleep on a hard surface all night.
Sleeping on the floor or even on a bad or uneven bed isn't the best thing for a dog to do. As they get older it becomes even more important that they have a really good dog bed to sleep in.
The other reason to get a dog bed is, of course, to keep them off of yours or off of the best couch in the house. If you don't want them all over your furniture, get them a comfortable bed of their own that they will love and use for a long time.
From the simplest dog beds to the more elaborate types, there are many to choose from. Some are more or less like large bean bags, some are donuts or round pet beds. There are also bolster dog beds, which have sort of a pillow going all around the outer edge of the bed. Dogs like to use this as a pillow for their head while they sleep. Then there is the orthopedic dog bed and memory foam beds, which are among the best you can get.
There are also outdoor dog beds which are made for outdoor areas like the back porch and there are also heated dog beds. These are great for dogs, especially during the cold winter months. Even when you have the heat in the house cranked up, the floor can sometimes stay cold and it's not good for your dogs bones and joints. A heated dog bed will keep your canine pal comfy and warm the whole time like a warm blanket.
Another option you may want to look into is getting a waterproof dog bed. We have all taken our dog out for a walk when it is raining and wet outside. Whether we want to or not, we have to go out on those miserable days when the rain is pouring and we both get soaked. After a good towel dry, dogs still have some moisture left on their coat and skin. The nice part about a waterproof dog bed is that your dog can lay on this type of pet bed without getting it soaked on the inside where the water stays put. These beds are made for this so they do not get ruined every time your water soaked pooch rests on them. For those dogs that prefer to stay out on the porch or outside near their kennel or dog house, they are much happier on a waterproof bed than a conventional one that soaks up the water. It's not only a comfortable resting spot for sleeping and lying down, but it will last longer too.
Not all dog beds are the same just as not all dogs age the same. When your dog gets older, he or she will most likely develop the same types of aches and pains due to joint problems that humans do. When your dog starts to slow down due to joint pain, inflammation and arthritis, the best thing you can do is to look into getting them a memory foam dog bed.
As soon as your are aware that you dog is suffering from orthopedic issues, the floor is simply not a good place for them to sleep. Even a conventional dog bed just will not do. The even balance of a dog's weight is more important at this stage of their life than at any time before. A bumpy or uneven bed is not good for the existing joint pain and can actually worsen the dog's problems over time.

The first thing you need is an appointment to get the mother spayed and puppy neutered.
Puppies aren’t cheap, but you can get training books free at the public library. You can use this amazing thing called Google to find the best prices on pet supplies.

Puppies for Dummies is a great puppy book. I’ve got a 6 and a half month old puppy. Got him when he was 2 months and have been using the tips and techniques from Puppies for Dummies. I get compliments all the time on how he is "such a good dog." Plus the book gives you online access to even more resources.
I’ve been feeding him Science Diet Small Bites for Puppies with Fish Oil. It’s done wonders for his coat. He’s super shiny! I definitely recommend it, its the food my vet suggested and I’m glad I switched to feeding him it.

You will need LOTS of chew toys…either that or kiss your favourite shoes goodbye.
Puppies teethe like babies when their teeth are coming through, so really need plenty of fun (safe) stuff to chew on.

The other posters are right—dogs need meat! Food is one place you don’t want to go cheap! You can either pay for expensive food now or expensive vet bills later! I disagree with the poster who said lots of toys get puppies confused. I have always given my puppies lots of their own things to chew and they have NEVER chewed anything of mine. Make sure the various toy have different textures like squishy, rubbery, hard (like a nylabone), etc. My dogs have always liked tug toys, ropes, squeaky toys, balls and frisbees. If you DO get a frisbee, make sure it is the kind made for dogs because the hard plastic ones can cut their mouths and they can chew off pieces and swallow them. If you have a Dollar Store near you, they have alot of dog toys, leashes, collars and tie-out for only a dollar. Going to the library is good if you want training books, but it is better if you work with a trainer who can show you how to do it right. Maybe you can do some jobs like babysitting, dog walking, lawn mowing, car washing or something to pay for the training. It is really worth it. Another good resource for training is watching "The Dog Whisperer" or "It’s Me or the Dog" on TV. Some of the things you need you can get at the flea market or garage sales. I would also recommend pet insurance like VPI because vet bills can be REALLY expensive. And remember to get your puppy all his shots. There are low-cost vaccination clinics at some large pet stores and they are about 1/3 the price you would pay at the vet. Good luck and have fun with your puppy!

This is an excellent resource for finding just the right dog food. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog-food-index-a.html
I thought Blue Buffalo was good when i went to their site and saw how it stacked up against other brands but what I didn’t think about is that they chose just a few that were not as good as their product to compare to. You won’t see Innova or Canidae listed on the Blue Buffalo site for comparison. I am now feeding Canidae All Stages.Just bought it today and put my old feed Diamond beside it and all of my dogs ignored the Diamond and ate the Canidae. I have 6 dogs and not one touched the Diamond. You will need Large Chew Toys ( I say large because even the flat raw hide can get caught in their throat, flea/tick prevention (don’t use Bio-spot, my vet said they have seen a rash of emergencies and even some deaths because of it.) Good luck with your puppy.

Collar, leash, food and water bowl, dog food, toys (if teething then you will need LOTS of chew toys) and of course can’t forget the wonderful Cesar Millan’s Dog Whisperer Book. Great information!
Good luck and enjoy your new puppy

I know when my dog was a puppy I spoiled her to death!
It sounds like you have the basics and most important things covered for your puppy. If you need other toys, or a larger collar or longer leash down the road, check out the selection of dog items at this site, http://store.thenewyorkdogshop.com They have a ton of things for dogs there! Hope this helps and enjoy your new puppy!

Umm well none of these foods are like ‘vegetarian’ for dogs but they are high quality– Blue Buffalo, Solid Gold, Taste of the Wild, Evo, Canidae, Natural Balance, Wellness, and Innova. You can find Natural Balance at Petco and Petsmart, and you can find the rest at a natural pet food store. I prefer leather for a leash and I also prefer a harness for walks, but I do also have a collar for my dog just to wear all the time. You can get a crate at petsmart or a farm supply store.

If you mean you actually want no meat in your dog’s food, DO NOT GET A DOG. That is very unhealthy for dogs. They need meat protein.

Dogs are NOT vegetarians, even if you are. Your dog NEEDS meat. Research feeding raw. And sweetie, if you need to ask what you need for a puppy here, you shouldn’t have one! Look into crate training, get a puppy trainer, and get the dam (puppy’s mother) spayed.

Depending on the breed of the dog, you’ll want to get them either a large breed puppy food or start them on adult food. This will help the puppy grow at a steady pace and reduce the chance of joint problems. Foods with the word "chow" in them are often of the lowest quality. I recommend Purina One or Purina Pro Plan. Also, don’t get them too many toys. Try to stick to only a couple or else they won’t know the difference in their toys and a good pair of shoes. Good luck with your puppy and remember to get regular check-ups at the vet!
