The most common type of tapeworm in pets come from ingesting fleas.

Your pets cannot give that type to you, your cat cannot give them to the dog, the dog cannot give them to that cat. The individual has to ingest a flea containing a tapeworm.

You need to put your pets on flea preventative, like Frontline or Advantage to prevent future tapeworm infections. Good luck.

Tapes can be passed to us & to dogs but they have to be swallowed. If the dog eats cat poop, licks cat butt, etc it’s very likely he has injested some.
Chances that you have them are pretty low.

    Add:
Laura, getting tapes by ingesting fleas is only one way tapes are passed.

Both dog and cat need to be treated. It’s not likely that adult humans would get tapeworm from the cat or dog – proper hygiene would prevent that. Animals though will most likely "share" the tapeworm infestation. Flea treat both of them as well (with something safe like Frontline or Advantage) as fleas are the most common cause of tapeworm in the first place.

    everybody read carefuly

tape worms in cats and dogs will give you death not tapeworms
    YES DEATH
tapeworms release eggs in feces/pooh they are then usually eaten by insects like fleas or by cows/sheep while they graze on pooh infsted grass and get larval form of tape worms like – CYSTICERCUS, HYDATID CYST, CEONURUS

does these words ring any bells, they can form in humans also if the eggs are eaten by us accidentally ( eggs are like dust too small to be seen by naked eye, a single tape worm can produce thousands in a single day and it keeps on producing them for years)

i have personally seen such cases in humans, they are usually not so dangerous but remain as small tumors in muscles or liver / lungs etc but rarely infect heart and brain causing death

cats also have toxoplasma , protozoa , reported to cause abortions in women

whatever i didn’t mean to scare and leave the cat or dog but to take care of them properly
