I have a 9-month old dachshund/chihuahua mix. He’s almost completely housetrained, the only time he pees in the house is if one of us humans doesn’t take him out in time. But last night, he did something I just don’t understand.
I took him out to pee before bed, like I do every night. When I woke up this morning, it was an hour earlier than I usually do, but I always take him out first thing when I wake up, so I went to get his leash.
I thought I felt something wet on the floor, so I looked down, and there were tiny little pee spots here and there, all over the floor, like drips. Confused because there was no puddle, I started looking around, and it turns out, he peed on the back of the sofa.
I don’t understand why he did this. He usually makes it through the night just fine without going in the house. And I got up earlier than I usually do! And why the sofa? When he has accidents in the house, they’re always on the floor. Why would he suddenly choose the sofa, where he loves to lie down during the day?
He was neutered at 6 months.

first- vet time.
have them check if he has a UTI, kidney or bladder problem, which can lead to "dripping". if he does have a problem, make sure that he gets a lot of water to drink, and take him out often- he’ll have to take antibiotics and drink a lot to flush the infection out of his system.
it sounds as if he’s also learned to mark. if he checks out healthy at the vet’s, crate him at night. you may have to re-housebreak him. even a pup who is neutered and housebroken can learn to do this, and most do learn it between 9 and 12 months- so you have to train him that it’s NOT ok in the house.

Take him for a check-up at the vet…he may have a bladder infection or something. Best of luck

Is HE neutered? Chances are if you think he house trained, then it’s a territorial thing. They are marking their territory. Any new smells can trigger them to do this. A shopping bag, another dog in the house etc.

If this is something abnormal it’s probably down to something medical. Was what he did back of the sofa a puddle, or more drips. Is he doing a flow when he pees? If not he does have a problem and you need to see your vet. If you can, collect a sample of his urine (fresh) to take with you.

you probally aren’t training him the right way
