Why does my cat bite my feet when I go to bed?

Posted August 29th, 2011 by admin

My cat is very strange. Every night before I go to bed she feels the need to attack my feet as I make the walk from one side of the room to my bed. As soon as I get in bed, she ignores me. If I walk through my room in the middle of the day, she doesn’t attack my feet, nor will she attack my feet anywhere else in the house, even around bedtime. It’s just during my walk to bed that she attacks. I think it’s playful, but it seems very strange to me. Why would she do that?

The evening, in the dusk and twilight hours, are a cat’s natural times to hunt. The dim light gives them the advantage over their prey, and the remaining warmth of the previous day means their prey might still be active. So it is natural for her to play during this period.

As for why only in the bedroom? Somehow, she has gotten it into her head that this is an appropriate place to hunt/play. Cats can be very territory oriented, and can have it set in their heads that behaviour acceptable in one room is not in another. I have one cat that loves to have her belly scratched, but only in the living room. We have no idea why, it just is.

My cat does the same, she chases me up the stairs at bed time and nips at my feet. I think it’s because night time is when cats really come alive (in the wild) i’ve had 8 cats and they all get very giddy at around 11pm.
In their minds, their just playing with you.

I’ve noticed that cats are very affectionate in the morning and the night. She probably just thinks it a game.

I find that very cute. =D

Cats are born predators. She probably thinks your feet are her prey.

Why do they do anything they do? Just want to play around I think. Let me tell you about my Charlee. Her food is in my bathroom and she will come to get me and cry outside the door. She will wait for me and ask me to come in by a meow and walks in. If I don’t go with her she will come after me. Why? She doesn’t want to eat alone. She will get me and lead me into the bathroom and have me wait for her while she eats. She’s so social. lol

My Emma will only sit on me and let me cuddle her at night after I’m in bed. She’ll come and sit on me then.

I think your cat sound so cute. I think it’s just her routine.
